Behavior Change Module

- In Stock

The major health problems experienced in developed countries result from acute and chronic diseases related to individual behavior. Studies demonstrate that changing the individual behavior in these and other conditions results in primary prevention of disease and injury, the prevention of additional complications, and the slowing of the deterioration of an established disease. Published studies also document that even brief counseling is effective in changing these behaviors. However, physicians are often disappointed when patients fail to follow their advice to change their risky behaviors.

This workshop is intended to build proficiency in overcoming patient resistance to behavior change. It focuses on smoking cessation, dietary changes, increased exercise, and reduction in alcohol use. The training is based on the "Stages of Change Model," which sees change as multi-stage, requiring a readiness on the part of the patient to move from one stage to the next. Participants will learn how to recognize the various stages of change as well as strategies for helping a patient move from one stage to the next. Role plays with script booklets are provided to allow for practice of these strategies.
